World Series Final Game Attracts Over 50 Million Viewers Across the US, Canada and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting extra-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a combined over 50 million viewers in the US, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB reported this represents the most-watched World Series Game 7 after the 1991 contest between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

The Saturday memorable game drew 27.33 million audience members on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It additionally stands as the most-watched World Series game since the 2017 edition final game between the Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent improvement compared to the previous Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked 4th, Game 4 ranked 7th, Game 5 came in 8th, and the third game landed in thirteenth position.

International Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged 11.6M viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 PM local time, it attracted 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – averaged 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a single network in the country.

Series Totals and Patterns

The full seven-game series recorded over 15.7 million viewers on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership growth for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total American viewership reached 16.1M. The total Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09M watchers, an eight percent increase over last year and Fox’s best playoff performance since the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different tongues.
