Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, fiends, and dark forces growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of characters who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment show why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the group understands precisely where to head next after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—used the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.

The traitor then settled his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, seeks retribution.
  • The adventurer has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their status as key figures in the influential clan could assist the team access areas they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This means them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in quest for the antagonist.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Fans can anticipate learning which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
